lyrics
'Round this time last year you and I
Were staying up too late at night
Under the glow of your porch light
And we were so happy.
But as the trees got prettier,
Your heart got working in reverse,
And things began to feel rehearsed,
And we started lapsing
Back into how it was before
And that wasn't good.
And when you finally left to look for more
I agreed that you should.
Depending on the time of year
I'd say, "I'm done. My mind is clear."
Or, "I was wrong. I need you here."
Maybe both at the same time.
So maybe I should listen to
My head when it says "run from you."
Or does my heart know what to do?
Oh man, it's a lose-lose.
So maybe I'm naive to try to perceive
The world with one mind.
I should accept instead that inside my head,
The voices, they're all mine.
When all is done and said and I've made my bed,
I'll have to sleep in it too,
And depending on the way I feel that day,
It will or won't be with you.
So when I think about last year
It's with a smile, and a tear.
Confusion helps to make it clear
That there's more than just one of me in here.
